The IE Center for Families in Business and Fundación Abante Publish New Report on Challenges and Best Practices for Single Family Offices
The IE Center for Families in Business, in collaboration with Fundación Abante, has unveiled its latest report, "Single Family Offices for Families in Business: Challenges and Strategies for Wealth Creation."
Led by Cristina Cruz, Director of the IE Center for Families in Business; Laura Jiménez, Associate Director; and Fernando Oliveros, PhD candidate at IE Business School and Partner at Connecting Visions, this study examines the pivotal role of Single Family Offices (SFOs) in managing family wealth. It underscores how SFOs not only drive financial growth but also play a crucial role in preserving family values and legacy across generations.
"This study also highlights the essential role that business families play in the world, where their wealth, when properly understood and managed, generates benefits that extend beyond the family and have a positive impact on society as a whole." – Cristina Cruz, Director of the IE Center for Families in Business.
The report presents a collection of effective strategies and valuable insights on wealth management, drawn from real experiences of Spanish SFOs and offers practical steps for establishing and managing an SFO, structured into three key areas:
- Founding an SFO: This first step covers the foundational steps of setting up an SFO, from defining mission and purpose to crafting an organizational structure that reflects family values.
- Operational Strategies: Here, families are offered strategies to align family aspirations with professional goals, develop leadership, and ensure rational decision-making processes.
- Turning Vision into Action: This last step focuses on translating family vision into tangible actions, securing a long-lasting legacy and ensuring smooth generational transitions. An in-depth case study of the Llorente family illustrates how families can balance financial and socio-emotional goals.
This study aims to inspire families in business to reflect on their purpose and build strategies that contribute to a multigenerational legacy.
